Márta Sebestyén – Singer Print

Márta Sebestyén has always lived under the spell of music, partly through the influence of her mother, who is a music educator, and Zoltán Kodály’s disciple. Especially, the world of the folk songs put a spell on her. She was singing folk songs when her talent was discovered. She is widely celebrated as one of the world’s finest female vocalist, who appears in the greatest concert halls of the world.

She has won every award that Hungarian artist can win: „Female Singer of the Year” (1984), „Liszt Ferenc Prize” (1991), „Kossuth-Prize” (1999), „Prima Primissima-Prize” (2003), „Middle Cross Of the Merit of the Hungarian Republic” (2005). In Italy she was awarded Diploma alla Carriera and Chinciano Fellini Prize. She sings in the film The English Patient, which received multiple Academy Awards and on the Grammy-winner world music album of the Deep Forest. She has sung for the Japanese Emperor, and it was through her interpretation that the Queen of England and the King of Spain could get to know the songs of the Hungarian people. She is a real cultural ambassador of Hungary.
